Yeah im trying to stay positive, but am still kicking myself on the sump issue, stupid error that is going to cost me time and money knockknock.gif
Handbrake will be staying Kevin, as will the factory shifter. My mate whom is helping me just wants me to fit a custom B&M shifter, says they look great....they may do...but its not original, I think he is struggling with this concept :)

Anyway I got my Radiator back after having 25mm cut from both ends to fit the Manta chassis rails (still needs lowering an inch or so in these photos)

IMG_2050_zps72be7caa.jpg

Slides down nicely just in front of swaybar mount, bottom radiator hose will mount under swaybar

IMG_2051_zps79a07b84.jpg

Original Manta Radiator support end plates will will rewelded on in wider position for support and to give impression of originality

IMG_2052_zpsc677d18e.jpg

Enough room for Thermo(s)

IMG_2053_zps492002e1.jpg

Other than that just more body work, the car is really very straight, just a few small dents to fill

.......god damn sump! mad.gif

How many motors does it take to build a Manta?

Well two if you don't concentrate when committing to purchase like me!

  • 2 weeks later...
My 2nd motor arrived this afternoon, on a truck with no tail lift, the motor had a tag on the side saying 60kg...yeah nah.....you can imagine the fun we had getting that off!.
Once off the truck straight into the garage, and straight into the car!
Home alone again but could not wait so had to piss about on my own.

Lifted car as high as I could and went thru wheel arch

It literally 'just' touches on each chassis rail as I lowered the car, but fitted :)

Julian the motor does need to come up and back a little in the photos above, but that was the best I could manage at the time.

The pulley you can see in the pic close to the radiator is not required and will come off.

Paul, I think the rear two exhaust manifold pipes may require modification to clear the steering arm, a mate of mine has just put a 1UZ into a 910 bluebird and his engine bay is almost exactly the same size and he needed to modify the exhaust manifold....something I will leave to the exhaust shop.

Maybe some stainless steel wire needed on that heat wrap rather than plastic cable ties?

Wonder if the plug cover with the lettering fits the other side as well?

Would be nice to have that on both sides of the engine.

Is the guy with the Nissan using solid engine mounts?

Looking forward to more pics.

yeah figured he would not want too much movement in the engine being there is hardly any room.

any idea what the measurements are for

floor to existing input flange on axle torque tube

floor to gear box output flange (picking that's a calc pending trans tunnel mods to fit gear box)

Like what you're doing to your car, it's a lot of work but I've been there, done that haha. But it's all worth it in the end!

The Orient Blue (petrol green!) GTE Coupe belongs to Andy Wheelan and there is a a Monaco Blue Coupe belonging to Steve Poulden, both of whom emigrated to Oz from Milton Keynes, must say something about Milton Keynes !

Hi I'm Steve Poulden, mentioned here. Just come across this thread and I'd just like to share with you a picture of my car, it's still in one piece over here in Oz!

yeah Andy Whelan on the Gold Coast, I heard from him February 2012 after his Manta took a rear shunt and was in need of some parts so I managed to help him out as much as I could.

is there a red one in Aussie as well?

one things for sure Western Australia will be the home to one very cool Lexus V8 Manta when this is done.

That's awesome thanks for sharing!

I saw a Manta Hatch in Primer on Mini-lite rims advertised in SA around 2009, i've lost the pictures but this was the advert

1982 Opel Manta with 3.8ltr Rover V8, Borg Warner 3spd auto, Reg VBV-638, $7000ono, (08)85565836, ALDINGA BEACH, SOUTH AUSTRALIA

The Red Manta pictured earlier in this thread I believe is still in Ireland, the owner works in Perth but left the Manta at home.

Straight of the gun, not to bad

IMG_2210_zpsba1425d2.jpg

Also went around a mates house to compare brakes

Manta on right Holden Gemini on left

IMG_2195_zps98000bf9.jpg

Pretty much identical apart from the steering rack mount being a few mm's out

IMG_2196_zpsda87f1c7.jpg

Its enough for me to buy this kit and be done with the brakes

Sorry forgot to answer this but it was 310mm, which is in the ballpark of being level for the 320mm output shaft from motor

Laid a little GT Matt today.

My favourite job so far!....it was easy, clean and I got to sit on my Ass whilst doing.

Cost $90US and I have hardly made a dent in the roll, should easily cover the car
