Hi Herman..the nose cone was an ebay purchase arrived today it also came with a spare front and rear screen  the car it was rmoved from had a v8 engine fitted so ime assuming it was something to do with that maybe  thats also why the front valence had a section cut out of the centre

Nosecone is looking good, what purpose has got that square metal part that is welded in?

I presume it was where they mounted the radiator, as they have cut off the normal rad mounting plates presumably for engine space.

had a little go with the spot blaster gun i do have a pressure pot but just wanted this bit done to see how it would clean up.... if at all this took seconds  ive   come up with a plan ime going to cut out and replace the lower six inches in this area probably going to keep the inner A post also as apart from some heavily pitted  ares which i can patch repair   and looking at other peoples projects its not as bad as i first thought  after spending a full hour with a twisted knot wire wheel  also took a pic of the floor pan from underneath

chassis rails...... have these left from a project many years ago. i didnt know if they would be any good now  the car they were on the guy decided to go full cds tube  to make it full space frame
so i kept them    i knew i had box section to make new rails  so went to my unit wich is like a hoarders paradise. i dont know what the hell is in there all together between bikes and cars and parts i really need to go through and organise .....
anyway these are and have been under the bench and in surprisingly good condition so will be blasting them and rust proofing the outsides.... i only dusted them in standard primer on the outsides when i made them  and now have surface rust
these pics were back when i made them  sittin outside my kitchen in the sun after spraying the inside with rust proofer zic rich weld through primer of some sort

pics would help

i know a company that can do it [radius box]  its not a bad price tbh but i know the guy that has it...  he does moan a bit as most of his work is production runs
but means having a pattern wich i didnt have at  the time
as the important sections were rotted out  and missing
i can fold up a channel as per original with the lips to spot weld it to the floor in up to 6mm thick steel  sheet
these i did approx 10 years ago i was talking to the guys at retropower who gave me the dimensions for these and being i have them may as well use them

ah thank you> i will be making a few panels over the coming weeks not  up to the standard of some members here   but will be solid strong and clean lines if not original in apperance  the folds on this piece can be tight like this or looser to replicate the original more ime not bothered about originality  myself tbh i want it stiff/strong

i already have new floors  i didnt fab them for the manta but they will be perfect they were actually made for the mini in the pic here i made them over length so i could trim back as needed  but i went a different way with the old mini and didnt use these  theyre made from 1.2mm mm steel sheet so a bit thicker than standard and have v ribs so very stiff

  • 2 weeks later...

folding these up tonight to make a channel   two peices to be joined down the centre   the 60x40 box will then sit inside it  stich weld on the top radiused edges to the channel and on the underside down its length where they join ime intentionally  leaving a 4 mm gap along the join so i can weld them down the centre to the box should be stiff as you like going to crack on hopefully get a few pics when done

so heres the channel and also the the mounting sections for the box........ the channel is 2.5mm the  sections for the  box are 2mm only because i had a strip already cut  to the width i needed to fold from another job  and is thicker than stock anyway  the box section wall is 2.5mm

will stitch weld as in pics  doing it this way should keep it looking more like  original but be much stiffer /stronger will be doing a similaire thing for the swan neck and the necks forward
