h0tr0dder_uk
wow - that looks fantastic. personally I don't think i'd have the stainless exhaust showing as much though as it looks too new for the car (if you know what i mean). wheels reslly suit it and black n chrome never goes out of fashion. Robbie
h0tr0dder I do know what you mean about the exhaust, thats why I got it futher back in, the pictures seem to make it sit out futher and more noticeable than it actually is not, prob due to me taking them at a low level. The box is behind the valance the only about 3" of the tails actually come past the rear valance, and they stop before the bumper. Hugh I,m not a big fan of the standard A series lights but on a black car they tend to look fine, I have LED lights in the V8 with smoked lens but they dont suit the black one. Robbie
the rims are 15" by 7" tyres are 205 toyo proxies, They are the ones I had one the V8, before I done the rear disc conversion, so they dont want to fit it now, so hunting for something else at the moment. Cant get those particluar rims with a higher positive offset. [] I think a set of revos are around £800 from memory but cant be sure, prob the best one to ask on that would be TJM. http://www.mantamagic.com OMOC N,Ireland Rep id="blue"> OMOC 5706 Please dont shoot me it,s only an opinion not a demand Email robbie @ mantamagic.com (without the spaces)
Robbie
Been one of those weeks were most of the manta time was spent hunting for more parts to help conclude the restoration. I needed a new filler neck hose for the A series tank, tried every car dealer locally and one tractor bloke along with a hydraulics guy. [] No one had 54mm hose, So ended up after all that on good old flea bay and a bit of over kill, Black Silicone 54mm hose was purchased, but thats another bit got, Work wise I got the petrol tank modified, had to chop 4" of the end of it to let my exhaust back box sit right. that took a bit of work and testing to make sure there were no leaks [] Then decided i didnt want any future hassle so I,ve ordered a tank repair kit from frost which is supposed to make a new tank inside the old, has anyone tried these kits? Front seats are now fitted as well so the inside is almost finished, just waiting on a few clips and have to pop in the org radio at some point and tidy some spare wires i added. The prop shaft has been shortened as well and hopefully tmw it will get sanded and painted then I can get it back in the car sometime next week [^] http://www.mantamagic.com OMOC N,Ireland Rep id="blue"> OMOC 5706 Please dont shoot me it,s only an opinion not a demand Email robbie @ mantamagic.com (without the spaces)
Manta Mal
Robbie....the final stages must seem to take for ever, when your waiting or searching for that elusive part. I used a product call Petseal, years ago on a BSA motorcycle tank. Put a handfull of nuts and bolts plus think it was parafin, into the tank, then gave it a shake for 20mins to clean off any surface rust. Dried the inside of tank with hair dryer, the mixed up and poured in the clear resin(just like fibre glass resin). kept slowly rotating the tank until it was all covered. Can't say if it works, as 20 years latter, the tank has still not seen petrol yet, its one of those to be finish latter projects. Had thoughts about sealing the inside of my Manta A tank, found a product that they say is far better than Petseal, using an aerospace formula....... http://www.tankcareproducts.co.uk Will Silicone hose be ok to use with petrol, on the filler neck? Robbie
Thats something like the frost kit, the kit from frost costs £45 Some of the products you can reuse, like the marine clean and metal ready, I use the metal ready for rust on the car its very similar to jenoite liquid, the jenolite gell i get of ebay at times. Then the por 15 tank seal is used, the kit also comes with a 1/2 bottle of fuel preserve. All in all it seems not to bad a price but like doing anything right there always is a cost implication [] The silicone should be fine in the filler neck I ordered FSHL Fuel Resistant Flourolined Polyster Silicone hopefully thats what they send rather than the normal for breather tubes [] http://www.mantamagic.com OMOC N,Ireland Rep id="blue"> OMOC 5706 Please dont shoot me it,s only an opinion not a demand Email robbie @ mantamagic.com (without the spaces)
Robbie
30th March 2007 this year seems to be flying along and this past few weeks has been spent doing a lot of fiddley time consuming work. The petrol tank had to be shortened to allow the back box to fit, once it had been shortened. I used one of the kits from frost to remake a new tank inside so it would last for a long time to come, tank was then fitted back under the car, The facet silver top comp fuel pump and pre filter was fitted inside the boot beside the Servo and the fuel lines plumbed up and the fuel sender wired up. With the tank underneath the car still loads of room in the boot for beer [] Petrol tank fitted With the fuel system finished the interior was the next target to complete the wiring was sorted for the fuel pump and then the coil wiring was completed, the org resistor wire was done away with so that a normal 12V supply would be delivered to the coil and pump on the 3rd position of the ignition key. A few other bits of wiring were sorted, interior light, cig lighter, head unit and speakers. Any other bits of interior trim were sorted like grab handles and then the front seats were bolted down into place and the seat belts fitted. New Pedals from the pic you can see the inside looks like it always was, mainly to the gearbox selector rod being shortened allowing the gear selector to come up in the orgional position, this means the console can be used again. With the inside completed now the engine area was next sort, the clutch cable was fitted and a alloy spacer made up to get the right length of adjustment on the cable. New washer bottle was fitted and a twin washer jet fitted to the bonnet, then piped up. you can see the alloy spacer just behind the 40,s on the bulkhead. The trottle cables were adjusted and battery terminals wired, with that out of the road the brakes were blead but the master cylinder turned out to be faulty so a new one was ordered and fitted, then the brakes blead without any futher problems. Battery wiring and washer bottle oil and filter sorted and antifreeze , that just left one thing to do , FIRE the beastie up, only took a few mins and the engine fired into life, spluttered a bit and spat .........oops , after a head scratching few mins or 10, 2 of the plug leads had got mixed up this was duely sorted and the car started again, reved a tad high so a fine tune was done on the linkage and once warmed ran sweet as a nut. Still a few jobs to do , car needs a final go of G10 and then the stripes fitted, also need some wheel nuts for the Revolutions as somehow I lost 2, exhaust manifold has to be done with heat wrap as its close to the tunnel and it will stop the paint burning of, then it will be time to drive the car up the road to see what snags she fires up at me. But the moment she fired into life it made all that work worth while [][][][][][^] http://www.mantamagic.com OMOC N,Ireland Rep id="blue"> OMOC 5706 Please dont shoot me it,s only an opinion not a demand Email robbie @ mantamagic.com (without the spaces)

Robbie
Thanks Clive and Mal, [] I,m pleased with the way she has turned out, though I know there are bount to be a few snags and things I,ll end up changing once I get it completed for now. Hugh the centre console is not modified at all, that was one of the reasons I modified the gear selector linkages so the inside would look stock, then I welded the Top of the A series gear selector onto the bottom half of the XXXX one [] Weather is great here today just in for a cuppa been attacking the car with G10 this morning and hmmmmmm going to take me ages cleaning the car now. Hopefully if i get some time tmw I,ll look at the stripes and maybe get some of them fitted, I never know what way to do stripes wether to damp the car down and fit them or just put them on dry, hard to know which is best. Christ
that's looking quite nice[] is the facet fuel pump ok mounted like that? i thought they had to be within so many degrees of vertical
Robbie
Works fine in that position, seen quite a few cars in the past with them horizontal rather than vertical which facet suggest. Plus it pulls the juice up from the tank ok, thats what I was worried about initially. Robbie
Stripes now fitted and that completes the outside [] put the stripes on dry and didnt damp the car as I dont want them coming of. Stripes fitted so that completes the outside of the car. Still waiting on the heat wrap so I can get the car out for a test drive and see how it all feels The outline stripe on the broadspeed spoiler adds nice definition to the front, the bonnet stripes I decided to leave out for now as I dont want to clutter the outline. http://www.mantamagic.com OMOC N,Ireland Rep id="blue"> OMOC 5706 Please dont shoot me it,s only an opinion not a demand Email robbie @ mantamagic.com (without the spaces)
