GTREA
Bit more work today, entire drive line is now part of the car and secure, will bring home on the weekend after 10 months away from home New Lexus A340 gearbox rubber Bending 6mm plate steel to fit around rubber and make the mount. One side tacked in Making stencil for the other side Added some bracing Again, all mounts and cross members need to come out again to be tidied up and look factory, this is just so I can move the car and progress with it at home as well as send to shops for exhausts and what not. One 1UZ officially bolted into a Manta

GTREA
Manta came home today First time its seen natural light in 10 months As usual hire trailer is a piece of junk, broken winch and crap ramps...getting it on was a pain with help...getting it off at home on my own, well......... She's on Looks as tough as nails, but the car sits to low, I am going to have to find uprated front springs And home! Now I have to remember how to piece it all back together, I seem to have lost my Mojo somewhat Edited April 12, 2015 by GTREA

GTREA
That is bitchin! Haha thanks Paul I am happy with the overall look so far. 1st thing on agenda is paint them damn doors as there really bugging me!. Few issues to deal with as well, I think the Internet may have lied to me regarding the weight of the 1UZ! It's compressed the front springs somewhat to the point the tyres rub on the guards What springs do people use when they put straight 6's in Manta B's? Also the angle of the tie rods is unacceptable after the lowering of the rack, did I see you use an extender for your track rod ends to lessen the angle somewhat? Is there any off the shelf items available or did you machine them up yourself? Other than that and the million other little jobs I think it's coming along alright
GTREA
Oh yeah and what's the best method of attaching the factory bump strips to the front guards when there is no pins on the guards to attach the clips to that hold the bump strips on? The back of the bump strip them selfs are hollow.
Paul Barrett
I machined them all myself, and used rose joints. Spring wise, you may have to use something from another model/make.
GTREA
Thanks Paul, I will see what I can get made up over here then, as the angle is fairly extreme. As for the springs I think I may have had a brainfart and in my rush to get this car a roller to send it to my mates I never put the Coil spring rubbers in the front, as I see I have 2 left over amongst by bits and pieces....that should lift the car 10mm or so. (there is rubber mounts for the coil springs on the front right!?) In other news because the car is home now I bang out a few hours a night again on it, first things first was finishing off the painting, doors are now done. Finish here is straight off the gun on the doors and cut and polished on rear quarter....not to bad for what was a bit of a quick job. Trim bits are just sitting on there for now so looks a little out of whack but you get the idea Also fitted the standard Heater box, it fits behind engine with about 2mm to spare where it juts out. Next is running all the wiring from the rear to front, finish off the sound proofing, and refitting some of the interior.
GTREA
update: I painted the engine to make it look more 'Non Lexus' and more......well old really, tried to emulate the Black Irmscher look with alloy finned look. Few issues I need to sort, firstly the brakes, the standard Manta Booster and master assembly is just not going to fit so I bought a small 6" Hot rod booster which is 90mm deep But after making a cardboard stencil it was obvious even this would not fit I went down to Brakes West and had a look at just mounting a master off the firewall but even they would struggle to fit before clashing with the rocker covers. So it looks like a VH40/44 under the front guard and a pedal box like this with remote Reservoir Just hoping they are street legal. Next issue I am trying to sort is the shifter As you can see the selector rod is on the opposite side (Opel vs Toyota), it seems relatively straight forward but arc needs to remain the same, as do indents on the selector matching shift indents on box. What I did get made was a Tailshaft, Phil at Final Drive knocked this up Manta rear section with 1300 Hardy Spicer slip yoke, he also pissed off all the bulky factory Toyota junk from the front of the shaft replacing it with a nice aluminum adapter. I finished off all the DynaMatting and have refitted most of the interior now I have fitted and removed the radiator about...1000 times now, and only the other day noticed it does not have a cap! Not sure whether to fit the Lexus Over flow (with cap) or when I get the outlets moved have them fit a cap to the radiator itself? Two Opels in the Garage, neighbors think im strange! Off to the exhaust shop yesterday Its getting a twin 2 1/4" system into a single 3" with a round chrome tip, Catalytic converter and mufflers to keep it legal. Should get the car back tomorrow, then book it in to get the engine wired up. Edited May 19, 2015 by GTREA

®evo03
Just a wee tad better than good... car is a stunner, Best of luck getting it finished. Keep us posted. Are u going to replace front spring rubber seats, car is sitting well at the front, back is a wee bit (4x4) ish, get some weight in the back!! But I think that about most mantas, too high, and needs wide wheels...

GTREA
I hear you Brady I am not a fan of the stance atm, I will level it off, front rubbers are now fitted in pics above, but motor is to heavy for the Spax springs, first few coils are compressed hard up against each other. As it is now the car sits bang on our legal limit of 100mm ground clearance (front cross member lowest point) All there is now to go in the rear is a full tank of fuel! I will try and source some V8 springs from something like a Torana or Commodore here, once its licensed I will mess around with the ride height Catch 22 Julian, all the money I am spending on the Manta prevents me from going anywhere I Know about the pics I was just looking at them myself recently Dear god....Never again haha! Heres the new exhaust Twin 2 1/4" into single 3" high flow cat ect....AUS$1600 which I though was alright since it was hard work getting the exhaust manifolds off (Lift and tilt motor, one side at a time) Edited May 20, 2015 by GTREA
®evo03
Thats a work of art... didnt think this manta would be left 4x4!stance. Full tank of juice should help. Seen a guy putting a cast iron stove in a toyota starlet, boot, to get it lower, proper lowering springs aint hard to fit.
GTREA
Got the car back today So here's a few more exhaust pic's because............well just because.

MANTAMAN
looking at this Manta i can only think of one fault with it..... It's the other side of the world and won't be at Billing for all of us to drool over !!!
GTREA
Car looking great love the wheels what size are they and what offset are they 15x8 +20's Small update, lots of little jobs Small flat head, lots of WD40, one hour and a sore thumb later new chrome window surround trim fitted New Accelerator cable made, Opel to Toyota. And fitted B&M Shift cable fitted, loops up and over box to shifter on other side. I used the original hole in the Manta shifter and it appears to get all the gears on the box in this location, but the Manta shift lever only travels 3/4 of the distance, so gear points don't match with indicated......although I care ye not tbh. I fitted it at this end using a mount I had from a K&N Air Filter kit for my old GTR which bolted to back of box and with only a slight bend accommodated the cable, its solid and took literally 2 minutes, something I was expecting to cause a massive headache due to lack of space...Bonus! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssJLr-h44Fg Fuel lines thru, I have some heat wrap and insulation for it which is not yet fitted as it comes close to exhaust....I also added a 'Skid Plate' Black Pod filter and shield, $30 ebay...why spend more when you don't have to! Ignitors fitted below Again I used a spare bracket from the K&N Filters I bought years ago to mount this setup!, very solid.....there was about 5 different brackets in the box and they've came in handy for this project Some heat shielding added under bonnet, and a few other areas. Thats kinda where I am up to atm, Radiator is off having outlets moved and cap added. I am looking at ordering this to get around my Analog Speedo cable to digital out put on box issue....because its just easier and matches in pretty well with the other dials SPEEDHUT GPS SPEEDO Just waiting on bits and pieces to arrive from ebay, like trim clips, washer bottle, LED's, nuts / bolts, clamps, joiners and so forth so I can finish all the little bits and pieces. Then off to get wired and fired up :yup:
droop snoot hp firenza
the car looks stunning you have got the styling just right not over top looks great, exhaust spot on, height the car is sitting, the classic wheels love it. the interior looks mint love the blue interior, any more shots of the interior, your manta is one of my favourite colour combinations, and the picture on your driveway from the 19th, you have blue sky in oz we can only dream of,
GTREA
Well I can't really take credit for the styling as all it is is a stock looking manta lowered on BBS style rims, and there's no safer bet than that looking good on a classic car, I also can not take credit for the sunshine.....but I will anyway Interior is mint (for a 1978 car) the rubbers around the window especially are still so supple, you just wouldn't get that here in our harsh environment, but with the interior back in with fresh paint n shiny bits it does now look a bit old and worn. I prefer to think of it as Patina
