87 exclusive coupe

Recommended Posts

Totally agree, I've had a few escorts and they are just as bad. Just a lot more of them around originally, so plenty of good ones survived. Scrap yards still used to be full of them.

Fords have a much bigger following with the prices to match. Just been having a clearout of old escort parts the prices people are paying are ridiculous.

Has anyone a ballpark figure of what this would cost to do right?

A lot of money at commercial rates, more than probably would make sense. Depends on how much you can do yourself. You might be better off buying the other Exclusive at £20K.

Probably a daft question but would it state exclusive on the log book? Also the rear bumper i guess was an optional extra or fitted after the car was first registered.

Apart from the obvious are there any other bits of trim or mechanicals fitted only to exclusives from the factory?

It says 'Exec' on the log books for some silly reason but the log books are different. The rear bumper was either a RMJ, Elegance or Irmscher aftermarket type as fitted to this car, i personally can't stand them!

The different bits fitted to the exclusives were

  • quad lamps (no trim strip under lights)
  • no washers in bumper
  • Red decals
  • Black wheels with silver edges
  • round washer bottle
  • green glass (apart from the 2ltr hatches and dolphin grey coupes)
  • different steering wheel
  • red piping on seats
  • A/C style heater controls (also fitted in later GT/Es)
  • Irmscher backbox
  • Irmscher 'fatter' three piece spoiler
  • Irmscher rear bumper and backflash

I also heard a very interesting rumor that the Exclusives has a slightly quicker steering rack on them which i would love to find out if its true with two original cars.

I share your sentiments re those replacement rear aprons. Horrible!

I've also read that about the different steering rack. Can't recall where though.

My 87D GT/E Coupe came fitted with the Irmscher back box which at the time was a pleasant surprise.

Re the trim strip below the headlights, take a look at the original German brochure photos below. It's in place and in body colour. Must have been deleted before they hit the UK market.

Just noticed this car which was for sale a while back: http://car-from-uk.com/sale.php?id=25868  Another of the D Plate batch. It also has the trim strip in place and again in body colour. Maybe the runout batch were different. Probably saved a few quid by deleting it.

I would say Shaun400r's Monaco blue coupe would be a better proposition than this one for not huge amount more,he's recently reduced the price and will deal further with a club member.

Starmist did you use to own or still own a mint starmist exclusive coupe:unsure:and work in leek by any chance.

Some early manta b had quick racks originally, early gtj coupes,  and diesel asconas, so the numbers are not massive, its half a turn less from centre.

the gte and early b had different hubs, the arm that the trackrod fits to are longer on the later cars, but i think the earlier gte had the shorter b arms, as a run out. Makes sense as its less effort for the wider 7 inch gte rims.maybe the 1.8s where shorter like the b.wonder did anyone ever fit a missmatch by mistake.

honestly, i dont think opel where anoraks, just because one car had an item, didnt means the next car was identical, example that wee trim piece below headlights.

now as for the ultimate front setup, im building a gtj quickrack, later gte, exclusive hubs, corsa power steering, arms strengthened, poly bushed, lowered by 10mm + 5mm with engine lowered also, talk about budgets, this wee lot comes in at £1.5k, fab, goodies, paint etc. But doing it all myself for a fraction.

Still not worth that money I got the same one condition wise for £280 exclusive coupe !

if they were that popular in the uk up today , why is everyone scrapping them or breaking them for parts , I know to keep others on the road . But face facts the metal was crap wot opel used . Compared to the sports hatch metal and early manta b .

This looks like a complete car with as the advert says 2 engines one rebuilt and blueprinted 30,000 miles ago,.

Plus the seller mentions many spares. He is also open to offers.

Maybe the price is a bit high, but the value is only going one way and some money to recoup selling off parts not needed.

Not seeing lots of 2.0 cih engines on the market.

For someone wanting to get into manta ownership with the ability to fabricate and weld, this could be a good buy.

The days of repairable £280 coupe's are long gone.

Yep that's pretty much what I got for my SR in 1991, it was jumping out of 2nd and I couldn't afford to fix it back then. Still don't get what happened to it as it wasn't ever taxed again. I'd done all the welding and it pretty much had a full ticket. I can still see the car lot now, was full of at the time what were cheap cars, Manta's, Cortinas, Capri's, a very sorry for itself Maroon SD1, and a nice selection of Datsuns

That’s funny. If you have any coupes kicking around like this for £700 I will have them.
