E720 PEE

Opel did such a good job designing a wheel to match the Manta styling that nothing else ever looks as good. The best you can do to improve the looks and bring the handling inline with modern driving standards is to increase the width or diameter.

The wheels here (on P270 PEE) and those of @Jessopia74 are perfect examples of what is achievable.

Hey Paul

It would be a nice drive for me too. I think the manta's are getting a bit more love these days as you very rarely see them.

Im always stopped by someone when im out in mine, usually to ask what it is 🙂

Lots happening with PEE atmo.

January storms caused lots of damage to bodywork. But luckily insurance covered the lot so she’s looking pretty good.

went out for a blast last week and developed a misfire then some backfiring.

whipped can cover off to find one of my loctited boots has come adrift into the engine . Can’t find it so must now be in the sump.

trying to suss the running issues has led to tearing it down.

parting this is to paint the engine bay anyway as it hasn’t been done since the colour change back to Opel dolphin grey.

so of course everything is going to get painted or plated now.

have now seeen the state of the bottom end. Cylinder one has some nasty scoring on the bore which is such a shame as the bottom end doesn’t seem long since a remote and new pistons 😞

Yeah, not great on Gravel mate. Guess pull it and see where you are with it. Maybe go for +0.5mm and sell the pistons you have if they are serviceable

Found the fending bolt!

still nestled in the head. Chewed up to a degree.

my next quavery is what to do.

throw the head back together as cam looks reasonable.
im guessing if any fragments are in the oil they will have passed to the sump and will have been picked up by the filter.
Only want the use fine to last the summer in fairness as ill be installing the cih 16v next year all being well.

Oh I will clean up the head as I’m sure there are parts of that little cock of a bolt in there still.

just don’t want to miss a show or two this summer

I have bought the commodore A over from my mothers house so I have something to at least use

Little mofo, hopefully you can just get it back together. Probably seen worse engine bores running fine. Just need to sure ring land is ok and no cracked ring tbh. Sure you can cope with a little oil burn ?

just trying to get my head round this story.  car was running fine then started misfiring ?

on dismantling you found a bolt had come loose from somewhere .front of camwheel ?

if so how is this causing a miss ?  has it got caught in the chain and jumped the timing or have i missed something farther back in the post ?

Apologies I’ve not quite updated this particular thread very well.

The car has never quite run right since I’ve owned it. Go through all manner of components. ECU, re built throttle body, temp sensor etc.

but the latest is a small bolt coming loose in the cam cover.
it’s been squished and I can only put the misfire down to this. I can’t  see how it’s jumped a tooth but it has definately trashed the cam bearings being softer. And a slight nick out of. Can lobe

The can looks worn.
it has the oil level riser

Had the head back from machine shop only a couple of weeks ago just before I was due to go away on family hols so nothing done really in repair of getting it running again. they took 3 weeks longer than expected so missed taking it to sywell sadly but, the  bay is  all painted and I’ve been cleaning things up to look nicer and more show condition even under the bonnet.

Bottom end is yet to come out, building myself up to that on the bloody gravel 😭

Let me know how you get on with that, I’ll take a set if he wants to print a few more off? That’ll give me a boost to getting mine done. I’ve got a TL-01 and a TB-01 up in the loft somewhere. All out of date and need upgrading to digital radio gear though.

No probs mate will do.

some detail work to do now and some magnetic body mounts (didn’t know even existed until today) to keep it clean

Looks great so far! I’ll try and get up in my loft over the weekend and route mine out.

yeah magnetic mounts are used in a lot of RC stuff now. My mate put them on his rock crawler but it keeps falling off when he rolls it 🤣🤣
