Kevin Abbott
It's hurry the f##k up primer at the mo.. Need to fit the wings. Line it all up, finish the brakes. Blast the new alloys and prep and paint them. I have the lights in red so I can build them, did that and realised I needed to drill the holes to fit them to the body, balls
Kevin Abbott
I have a pair of Englemanns that have been in the garage for many years and are a miss-matched pair so I decided I'll use them on this. One is a small logo embossed one, the other a large logo stuck out type. ( Lepo5 will know the rarest one!) It's not having my special crocodile skin blue glass ones The rubbers have been inside the housings since the 80s so they need a bath of hot water Sometimes you get lucky and the glass pops out easy Rubbers come away from the housing with a little tug Sometimes they are glued in and that causes problems but don't try and pop the glass out or this happens I had to get a scalpel blade on it to release the glue To release the housings from the foot you need to remove this nut.... ooohhhhhhhh the fun.. I tried every tool in the lab and eventually a pair of lingual bar benders did the trick All done and ready for paint my most important list in marker on the front of the bench, now all ticked off Edited May 24, 2015 by Kevin Abbott
MANTAMAN
Blast the new alloys and prep and paint them. Paint the wheels black center with a silver rim, trust me this looks brilliant with a bright 'F##K ME' red car. I notice in the background there is a red bonnet, if you are doing a panel at a time perhaps you should post pictures of them as you do them, that way we will be introduced to 'F##K ME' red gradually rather than it being a massive shock all at once !!! Rubbers come away from the housing with a little tug Carefull you'll become a father..... I had to get a scalpel blade on it Or circumcise yourself !!!!!
Snowy
Did you have any other support under this car when you cut that chassis leg out? Or was it just on the rollover jig?? Thanks The chassis legs On the advice of David from Mantasport I did then one side at a time Poke the old chassis until it is dust and cut out the rot New chassis rail pieces by Klokkerholm ordered from http://www.tjmotorsport.co.uk/ Inner built from 40mm box bent to suit Inner all welded up and zinc primed Blood sacrifice Now the outer was added, the panels fit so well with a little squeeze New jacking point on this side too Zinc primed and off to the other side So I put over 100 hours welding into the chassis going from work every day This is how you look every night at 2am after doing chassis rails At least the shell is now strong. Just a inner rear arch to add
Kevin Abbott
Just the roll over jig mate, did one at a time. You may be able to borrow it for a returnable deposit if you need one
Kevin Abbott
More progress Wheels................................................aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh AS you probably can imagine the wheel choice was a difficult one and I wanted a classic 90s wheel and not a stupid big one. So it's a waiting game on ebay watching and bidding and losing and watching and bidding and losing on BMW E30 alloys. A few weeks went by and these horrific collection only top end of Scotland closer to the North Pole than to me turned up with poor quality pictures..............I'm all on this I contacted the bloke and he was happy to wrap up and send them.. Result £170 later they were mine Arrival presented the horror.. Painted black and under that green and under that factory silver I power-washed the living hell out of them Tough paint that I was looking into getting them blasted and powder coated but that would make a £170 set of wheels a £330 set of wheels so I've done it the old way.. Paint stripper Fitted one onto my tyre changer I built. Took the tyres off, cleaned the inner bead surface, put the tyres back on and left the front face of the tyre off the bead so I can DA and fill the rim edge Slap the non caustic ( shit ) paint stripper on Black came off with wire wool , green paint seems harder Wheels are a work in progress, I'm not loving this bit Trim repair and paint Flatted with grey scotch-bright Adhesion promoter added Painted satin black and also the window surround and rear infill The next picture is specifically for Biggcliff Cliff, part number on coupe B post trim Bonnet needs work so I busted out my mini DA and rolocs Light bezels can be a pain so I've put rivnuts in place so I can properly bolt them in Service parts ordered in, got to love the dust on some of these boxes! Even before it's on the road I'm looking at a big caliper upgrade using V6 calipers and 300mm discs behind the 15" rim More progress tomorrow I think it's had about 400- 500 hours and at the commercial rate of the garage its in that adds up to £10000 to £12500 labour
Kevin Abbott
Latest progress from today Wings all bolted on and lined up, edges massaged ( BFH and a block of wood) This is a tedious time consuming job but as with all paint jobs the better the prep the better the finished car. Probably do the roof later today as the black surround on the glass roof needs work and painting.
Snowy
Just the roll over jig mate, did one at a time. You may be able to borrow it for a returnable deposit if you need one Oh I have one. I just would have never thought to do it that way. I did the drivers side from underneath. I think I will do the passengers side like you did, far easier. Thanks
Kevin Abbott
Surround on roof flatted, primed and done in satin black. Lots of trim now re painted too in satin black Bonnet getting some rust treatment, paint and flat too Englemann bases I made fitted to the car using Lepo5 measurements Then the re painted foot Spoiler need a stud adding or drilling out and a self tapper adding here Front splitter was widened to fit a 400 kit so it's been taken apart and narrowed to fit the standard bumper, will be doing this in satin I've given up on the wheels and taken then to be blasted... what a crappy job trying to paint strip them!
Kevin Abbott
Wheels blasted and look better than I had thought 7x15 ET -13 More satin trim refurbished and painted, this never ends! Service done, new plug leads, dizzy cap and rotor, plugs, fuel and oil filter, air filter, coil Nearly ready for paint/ the prep has been great but tedious. Bay cleaned out and washed, inner bay built and here we go..... Pics tomorrow

manta88
Great work, it's starting to look good now. What colour have you done the wheels, is there a paint code for the colour. Mick.
®evo03
Woooh, thats bright!, very nice, congrats, gonna look very well. Edited June 9, 2015 by brady
Kevin Abbott
The paint is a custom mix with no paint code. Thanks for the good wishes. The build up now is my biggest challenge as it came with a dismantled interior.
Kevin Abbott
Ah. The wheels. I think that is called Scania grey and is a base and lacquer. The blasters look like they hit they wheels too hard and have blasted off a lot of identifying castings on the mims. Got to live with it now. Loads of stuff to go back on the jigsaw now in a specific order I haven't done for many years. At least I managed to fit my black rear view mirror to match the black headlining Edited June 9, 2015 by Kevin Abbott
bris jas
Looking good there, those wheels will look spot on when fitted and nice choice of colour, can I just ask where did you find the front lower spoiler which is fitted to the front bumper?
