Sutty2006
I recognise that car too. Could be 2019, but the pictures are the same so maybe he’s tried to sell it earlier in the year and decided against it? Lovely car, unfortunately wrong time to sell it. That sunroof is an aftermarket jobby.

DAVID EDGE
Hi, just bought the Manta GTE you are discussing last month , with the after market sun roof (jobby). But it needs a little recommissioning , steering very stiff but this may be normal , need new exhaust blowing centre box , may have to get one from ebay or go stainless , the sun roof is leaking hope to find new seals or silicon closed , may need a service . Going to use daily ,very nice looking car body very good ,seats very good underside good . I see parts can be a little hard to get but hope the owners club can help out . Thanks Dave
®evo03
Nice car, enjoy But it needs a little recommissioning , steering very stiff, Gym membership needed💪, EPS can be fitted. Steering rack rebuilt etc need new exhaust blowing centre box. You could try a wanted add here or ask advice, think new systems can still be got, Ashley exhausts. sun roof is leaking hope to find new seals or silicon New seal, or VW golf mk2 seal or 3 series BMW a service . Going to use daily ,very nice looking car body very good ,seats very good underside good . I see parts can be a little hard to get but hope the owners club can help out . But, ask on here in relevant sections, parts wanted, tech questions etc.
cam.in.head
hi. looks a good car. steering shouldnt be stiff as such. possibly feel heavy at parking speed but thats all. depends on what you are used to. nice and light once on the move and should return to centre after corners. stiffness could be rack adjustment or ive had new balljoints that have been overly stiff atfirst ? ? centre boxes ofter pop up on ebay .more so than front sections .in standard spec anyway Edited January 2, 2023 by cam.in.head
Sutty2006
Welcome aboard. I’d lift the front axle so the front wheels are just off the ground then turn the steering by hand. If it’s still stiff, check the steering UJ hasn’t seized. Rare case of it has!
Moonmonkey
Hi Dave, welcome onboard looks like a really nice car and only 27k miles. Good luck, lots of help and advice on here when you need it Have fun
Jessopia74
Brats on the purchase 👍 And yes, the steering will be heavy 💪😁
DAVID EDGE
Hi , thanks for the replies , only driven about 20 miles yet went straight to the garage less than 20 psi in all 4 tyres , put them up to 32 psi which helped but steering does not return to centre may be just a lack of use. cam.in.head
check as mr sutty says above. it shouldnt feel stiff with wheels raised. ive had them where the rack has been overtightened, new balljoints very stiff and faulty (seized) uj which usually makes it very notchy. uj's can often fail by having a little slack in them too which although not bad enough to cause wandering can cause a rattle. i think you will find that it will be ok and that you are probably just used to a modern power steering car. gtes with the wider tyres than 1.8's and pre 83 will feel quite heavy at parking anyway. TheRealExile
Nice purchase 👍 is the roof okay around the seals?
DAVID EDGE
Hi , sorry for the delay the sun roof is leaking, a bit unsure what to do at the moment silicon it up and not use it , or try to find new seals open to suggestions . But not using the car for the next 2 months to do a few jobs thanks
Sutty2006
I think east Kent trim supplies do new seals. my sunroof has been sealed up since day one or early on. I think that’s why it’s never needed major structural work……
cam.in.head
being an aftermarket/ non original sunroof could make finding the seal(or leak) easier or harder depending on what it actually is. the original sunroofs were crap anyway and unless absolutely perfect they had a habbit of scratching the panel when opened due to the tight clearances.not to mention the rust trap issues. that could be why yours has been changed,or someone could have just had a sunroof fitted to a normal roof ? ? this is the same on carltons and senators etc as well. same basic style.i beleive a golf seal is similar . personally ive never wanted or used asunroof anyway ,find them totally pointless .but thats just me ! Jonathan Pounsett
I found it impossible to find new sunroof seals so made my own from strips of neoprene. They may not last forever but for now I’ve got a working sunroof and no leaks. 2
