Kevin Abbott
Update Woooooop Been looking into upgrading the engine to around 350 bhp so held my breath and bought all this. T34 Turbo with .48 housing L8 ECU with wasted spark driver,MSB chip, wasted spark coils and amps, Siemens 55lb injectors and a ' Ryan WRC loom ' I can now dump the standard dizzy and blank it off as it's not required ( apart from the phase sensor ) A little bit of work to the breathing to cope with the increase in power Flame trap deleted and take offs for the breather system from torques uk put into both sides of the block Another sump sourced. I blasted it and marked it for the breather oil return, This has to be below the sump oil level This will take a -AN fitting to suit all of the other stainless steel with nylon overbraid ( Torques UK Steath lines ) If you have the go you need the whoa so I've been doing some work on the brakes Brembos have been completely rebuiilt They fit the 300x 28 M3 disc The rears are brand new cosworth 4x4 calipers but the pad carriers are impossible to find new so I had those refurbished Rear discs, Nat at RP told me the disc PCD of the MK2 Jag hub. That matched an Evo 5 300x22 rear disc. The cosworth takes a 20 mm so I had 2mm machined off the face. Both sides of the discs are now the same size I will make the brackets for the axle once the 4HA is fitted at Retro Power early next year Next will be pics of the car on my body turner and stripping. ( probably used my picture allowance for one post here ) Edited December 30, 2014 by Kevin Abbott

Kevin Abbott
At weekend Bigcliff returned my body turner I built in the long distant past and never got around to using it. It was borrowed by another NW member who used it to fix to his car and then proceeded to blast all the paint off my new turner and fill the hubs with blasting media and leave it to rust with no paint on ..... Wasn't that nice Danny came overon Saturday night with plenty of beer.... The plan? To remove all the engine, box, running gear and everything back to a shell. Engine out again, using the electric hoist ( Dan liked it ) Body turner into place Check to see it still works and over we go. Handbrake mech slows the rotation down and can lock it off but I always prop it too. Looking from the back A few hours and one or two beers in and out came the big fire! Roofing torch and propane to soften ( not melt off like its the space shuttle re entry Dan! ) Tonight has been a bit more gentle. Tools of choice Mapp gas, electric scraper , Angle grinder with twist knot wheels and a small scraper After a few hours it is looking better but this is a horrible job! When I get all the underseal and seam sealer off it's going to be tunnel time and a small repair on the front end

opelmantagsi
Good times, two Manta freaks working on a car together. Nice one Danny. Eyes bulged a little when I saw that big flame in such a confined space with all those combustables around. Awesome effort, looks brilliant. Yes keep 2017 as a motivator, I will be home for my 50th and a cruise with you in the finished thing would be a treat.

Kevin Abbott
electric hoist:) now theirs a good idea. ha. Yea when I saw yours I needed one in my Life did the rs500 fit between the legs ok? just got 1 for my new engine set up It fits if you trim the ' triangles' from chassis leg to front of leg. Height is a big issue as you need major surgery to the inner panels on the front end and I've not finished making them good yet. I've seen them upside down but the boost pipes are too long then

Kevin Abbott
Some more bits bought and work continuing on the bottom of the shell. Bosch lamda and bosses so I can run closed loop New oil feed line with filter to keep the turbo nice and healthy I've built plenty of Mantas in the past but this is the most extreme build I've done and it shows up just how poorly parts of the Manta are sent out of the factory. Underseal protection is just a joke, the boot floor is sent out with nothing more than a waft of primer. This is the floor with a light going over with a cup brush. Looking down the shell the only protection is on the outside of the rails, no wonder they rust so bad. Now I can see the floor better it's time to clean up the bits I won't be using and to see whats hiding under those redundant brackets, rust. tool of choice Brackets off I've never liked the tongue sticking out from the back so that's now gone, more rust exposed. Standard fuel line brackets cut off, never knew these were brass! The standard axle being replaced so there is no need for these brackets. ARB mounts drilled off Holes need filling now :-( Brake bracket removed
MicsManta
looks like the project is getting on well. it will be good to see the fnnished car after all that work
Kevin Abbott
All the underneath of the car is now stripped and ready for blasting. The redundant brackets have been removed and the spare wheel well cut out and prepped for the battery tray I want to match the other side so I will be welding in a piece of boot floor into the hole and the battery tray will be placed on top of that. I wanted to do a proper account of how I convert Jag MK2 rear hubs to use on my manta for my records as well as anyone looking at doing the same Here we go Take one manky Jag hub The trouble is getting the studs out as they are screwed in. just using a pair of pipe grips didn't work so I resorted to drilling out the middle of the back of the stud Place the hub into vice as shown Normally I only use Presto or Dormer drills but this drill from lidl ( shhhhhhhhhh ) worked so well I'm getting some more! Use a slightly bigger drill and then knock into the middle the part of the stud that's been peened over. Then get a big set of Stilsons and turn the stud anti clockwise ( so press down on the stud if it's still orientated in the vice the same way from drilling the studs) Turn turn turn and out we come Here you can see why they wouldn't just smack out! .................. Now over to the drill press We want to install longer better studs and the studs used on the rear are the large spline ones 14.3 mm @63mm long. The shorter studs are the front ones for the aluminium hubs and are 13.1 mm with a short spline The hole in the hub is around 11mm but it's not just as easy as drilling to 14mm and pulling a stud in as the back of the hub need a flat area square to the face for the stud to sit. So place hub onto drill press table and make sure its all level in relationship to each part. bolt down and drill out to 12mm, then 13mm using plenty of cutting oil Then this counter bore drill comes into play, it has a bottom bore of 13 mm that fits into the 13mm hole you drill but has a top drill of 20mm to cut a flat area for the stud to sit into Turn the hub over, locate the centre bore drill and slowly mill the area for the stud to sit at a depth of 2mm it does this Are we done? No.............. Turn the hub back over as we need to drill to 14mm to allow the stud to be placed One hub takes me 3 hours Remove from drill press and take over to the vice, arrange hub as before and square up a stud into the hole Then draw into place Repeat 10 times and we are done Phew!

Kevin Abbott
Time to get back onto the long term project now the FMR coupe is done 2 Mantas, I must be mad The rear hubs are turning into quite an expensive set of hubs. They have just come back from the engineers after having a boss made and sweated on to hub centralise the evo disc Project images are available to Club Members Only, Click to become an OMOC Member. Irmscher Man
The pictures should all be loaded across to the forum by now.. Stuart told me that as they are viewed, they will get copied across and that should probably have completed by now as the web crawlers should have done the hard work for us and viewed pretty much everything on the site. Happy days.
