H-400 Posted April 9, 2020 Share Posted April 9, 2020 I'v got a Omega/Frontera block in my GSI, it has 2.4 in the cast iron marked. But I bought it as a brandnew underblock so no number stamped where it belongs. My "400" has got the same 2.4 in the cast iron but the engine number begins with 24E. The Omega block has got 8mm sump screws, and the dipstick-hole is on the front side of the block. My "400"16V engine is realy fun to drive, but the 2.4 8-valve is more suitable for normal use, has got more torque in the low revs than the "400" engine. The "400" engine explodes from 4000rpm and than begins the fun. H-400 Posted April 10, 2020 Share Posted April 10, 2020 The 2.2 and 2.4 have the same characteristic about those inlet ports. You can fit the 2.2 inlet manifold as mentioned above, but I shortened a 6-cil inlet manifold cause those inlet tubes are much bigger and you can fit the 70mm throttle body. GTEPETE Posted April 10, 2020 Share Posted April 10, 2020 I believe the engine would have been based on a standard 2 litre block with a 2.4 crank/pistons (2396cc) etc.Remember the Frontera 2.4 (2410cc)did not come out until 1991/2....this car is a 87/88 Fast Car says it does not have a LSD, but original ad says it does??? Herman, I also bought a new short block (no engine number) plus a 2.4 head from Germany, but should have ordered an Omega one as the Frontera came with the massive flywheel rather than the smaller car one... The most tell tale sign of its long outdoor layup is the corroded alloy rocker cover ! What a great purchase, look forward to recommission pics on here & Facebook. H-400 Posted April 10, 2020 Share Posted April 10, 2020 Hi Pete, I fitted a flywheel of a 6 cilinder (think it is the same as 2.2Carlton) to use a 9" clutch. Drove first with a 8,5 clutch but couldn't handle the power. Please be aware the 6 flywheelbolts have another thread than another CIH. I did just a complete overhaul of my 2,4 (see my topic) and asked the guy that bored and honed the block to drill another hole to fit a dipstick on its normal "Manta" place. GTEPETE Posted April 10, 2020 Share Posted April 10, 2020 Ok, with flywheels Herman as I have a Monza 3.0 one pinned to crank and changed to 6 bolts for 9.5 inch AP Cosworth clutch in my car, plus have bought four 400 flywheels off ebay, which look the same as Monza ones, which were removed from 400 engines in 1991.....plus have a modded 3.0 manifold to go on with a new throttle body.....but I didn't know the Frontera 2.4 has a different thread for the flywheel bolts!!!! as have a full set of HD Manta ones to use...The Frontera ones will be too long to use... ps We are digressing from the original i240 post, apologises for doing so..... The plan for now is to get it solid underside and take it to VBOA "if it happens" as it is to show how I found it, before it undergoes a full resto. I'll give the paint a buff and valet the inside. This will give me time to finish of a couple of other and save some money up to fund the rebuild as these cars have bloody drained me for a little while to come yet. The hose from the idle control valve to the manifold is longer because the connection is further away on the manifold. On the 2.2 thermostat the idle control valve sits further in than the 2.0 one. Looks like it's had the fifth injector fitted also (a job I had to do myself a few months ago).
